Detailed Services:

In an effort to avoid repeating information for each of my clients, I am providing this summary of services and terms as a way to clarify exactly what I do, and how much (approximately) it will cost you. I hope this will help you navigate the waters of working with a freelancer.

 I. Consultation

I offer a free 30-minute telephone or Skype consultation to explain exactly what I do and to find out what you’d like from me. Please come prepared with any questions you’d like answered. Emailing them to me in advance is a good idea. If the consultation runs longer than 30 minutes, I charge $38 per hour.

If you prefer to communicate via email, you have that option. Your free email consultation will include 5 brief but specific emails. Anything beyond that will cost $10 per email. Please note that I make an effort to answer your questions as fully as possible and will not charge you for simple replies to simple questions.

I am as concise, clear, and to-the-point as I can be so that neither of us is wasting our time. In this spirit, please be considerate when composing your emails so I don’t have to sift through large blocks of text. Where possible, please use bullet points for each question or topic so I can easily and quickly respond. This will make working together much easier for both of us.

IV. Pattern Making

I draft in a CAD system, so I can deliver your patterns to you in .pdf, .dxf, or .tud file formats.

I can also snail-mail your paper patterns to you. If you would like paper patterns, the cost is $1.20 per yard of paper used ($10.00 minimum), plus shipping. I can also mail you hard tag patterns. The cost for tag patterns is $2.60 per yard, plus shipping.

What I need from you:

  1. Measurements or blocks
  2. Sketches
  3. Fabric and trim information

Cost for pattern making services (not including the cost of paper and shipping; please see above):
$38 per hour The average time for patterns is 1-8 hours, depending on the complexity of the design.

* Flat rates are also available. Flat rates average $100-$400, depending on the complexity of the design. More accurate quotes for flat rates and/or time estimates will be provided after I review your sketches.

IIV. Grading***

The same delivery system as for patterns. Once the grading is completed, I will send you a .pdf of the graded nest and a measurement chart. Please look these over carefully. After you approve the work, I will send over an invoice. Once payment has cleared, you will be sent the files in your requested format.

What I need from you:

  1. Size chart (I can help you develop a size chart if needed. This service is $75.)
  2. Patterns
  3. Sketches
  4. Fabric information

Cost for grading services:
$10 per piece
$30 per style for digitizing pattern (plus return shipping)

IV. Tech Packs

Deliverable in .pdf or Microsoft Excel file formats. Tech packs generally include tech flats, sizing information, fabric and finding information, and measurements. Depending on the design, other information may be necessary. If you have a tech pack format you like, you can send it to me. If not, I will use my own standard tech pack configuration. There is a one-time fee of $50 for the use of this configuration.

What I need from you:

  1. Tech flats (see below)
  2. Measurements
  3. Fabric and finding information

Cost for tech packs:
$38 an hour* The average time for tech packs is 2-4 hours, depending on the complexity of the design.

* Flat rates are also available. Flat rates for tech packs average $75-$200, depending on the complexity of the design. More accurate quotes for flat rates and/or time estimates will be provided after I review your sketches.

V. Tech Flats

Tech flats are black and white sketches detailing the technical information of a design.

What I need from you:

  1. Sketches

Cost for tech flats:
$38 an hour* The average time for tech flats is 1-2 hours, depending on the complexity of the design.

* Flat rates are also available. Flat rates for tech flats average $25-$100, depending on the complexity of the design. More accurate quotes for flat rates and/or time estimates will be provided after I review your sketches.

VI. Sewn Samples

There are two types of samples I can sew for you:

  1. Rough. A rough is just the basics. Seams will be mostly unfinished; no hems or finishing details (buttons, etcetera). A rough is used to get an idea of the fit and construction. You can provide fabric for the rough, or reimburse me for the cost of fabric.

Cost for a rough: $38 per hour The average time for a rough is 2-6 hours, depending on the complexity of the design.

  1. Photo Sample. A photo sample is a photo-quality sample with all details and finishes present. For a photo sample, you must provide the fabric and all findings.

Cost for a photo sample: $38 per hour The average time for a photo sample is 3-8 hours, depending on the complexity of the design.

VII. Markers

Markers are a layout of the most efficient use of fabric.  They can be one per size or a mixture of sizes. For instance, if you want to cut (1) XS, (1) S, (2) M, (2) L, and (1) XL, there can be one marker for all sizes and quantities.

What I need from you:

  1. .dxf or .tud files of your pattern in all sizes needed for marker
  2. Fabric information
  3. If you are using a print or stripe, and want matching: A .jpg of one full repeat of the print or stripe
  4. Contractor information e.g. number of plys they can cut with your fabric, preferred file format, cutting table length.

Cost for markers:
$25 per marker.

VIII. Contractor Communication

More often than not, your sewing contractor will have questions relating to how something is constructed, how a measurement is to be taken, or something else. I am happy to field these questions for you.

I charge my hourly rate of $38 per hour or **$10 per email I send. Please make sure I am up to speed on your contractor situation, as this will help ensure things go smoothly for everyone.

IV. Digitizing***

Same delivery system as patterns. Once digitizing is complete I will send you a PDF of the pattern and a measurement chart. Please give these a careful look, once I get your approval I will send over an invoice for the balance of the work. Once payment has cleared you will be sent the files in your requested format.

What I need from you:

  1. Patterns
  2. Sketches
  3. Fabric information

Cost for digitizing:
$30 for Digitizing patterns (plus return shipping)

How I Bill, How You Pay

For hourly work, you will be billed at the end of every month. I accept checks, PayPal, and Google Wallet. If you have another way you prefer to pay, let me know and we will see what we can work out.
Please pay promptly. If a bill goes more than two weeks without being paid, all work will halt for your company until payment in full has been received. This includes communicating with your contractor.

* Flat rates include corrections to fit and errors on my part. If you change the design, an hourly rate will apply to alter the design. For all flat rate work, I require 60% down and 40% upon completion. Flat rates listed are averages please contact me for a custom quote.

** I only charge for emails that require a bit of effort on my part, i.e. more than 10 words. If it is something simple such as “Yes”, “Got it”, etcetera, you will not be charged.

*** Grading and digitized patterns are checked for accuracy on my part as well as yours. If there is an accuracy discrepancy on the original pattern I will ask you if you would like it corrected. Corrections are charged an hourly rate of $38 an hour.
